Next weekend, June 16 and 17 sees the celebrations for the centenary of Brooklands, the world's first ever purpose built motor racing circuit, situated in Weybridge, Surrey. On June 17 1907, the track opened and a new era of Motorsport began.
"Had it not been for Hugh Locke King and his £150,000 investment (equivalent to millions of pounds today), it is possible that none of us would be where we are today" said Bird. "I am very proud to be part of this historic occasion"
The Brooklands Centenary Festival will host the largest collection of pre-war machines ever assembled in Britain. For the first time in nearly 50 years, a selection of historic vehicles will take to the legendary banking as famous aircraft soar overhead.
BP Ultimate driver Sam will complete a number of demonstration runs in the car in which he took his first British F3 win last month in Romania. It will be the team's first appearance since its record breaking 1-2-3 finish at the last F3 race in Norfolk on 3 June.
Cars from throughout the ages will be on display and giving demonstrations, while legends from the sport, including Sir Stirling Moss and John Surtees will attend.
