Asmer dominates Race 1 at Brands

15 July 2007

Marko Asmer ran away with today's first British F3 race at Brands Hatch. The pole-sitter led from the start and after 22 laps finished just over eight seconds ahead of Raikkonen Robertson's Stephen Jelley, who was closely pursued by team-mate Jonathan Kennard.

T-Sport's Rodolfo Gonzalez, Carlin's Maro Engel and Niall Breen made up the top six. Greg Mansell finished ninth after starting from 11th on the grid. Sam Bird retired on the first lap as Atte Mustonen fell back to 17th after starting on the front row. Fortec's Sebastian Hohenthal, who was running in fourth, picked up a drive through penalty on lap five after a jump start and finished 16th.

Ultimate's Esteban Guerrieri, who was running in eighth, retired nine laps from the end much to the delight of the eight drivers queued up behind him. The only other retirements were Carlin's Alberto Valerio and Alan Docking's John Martin.

Today's second British F3 race starts at 16:00 GMT
