Kennard scores pole for round 14
27 July 2007 / Results / PhotosJonathan Kennard scored his second pole position of the year with the quickest lap of the weekend so far and, like team mate Stephen Jelley in first qualifying, edged out Maro Engel for the top spot.
Sam Bird was third fastest ahead of Jelley, Atte Mustonen and an improving Rodolfo Gonzalez. Championship leader Marko Asmer could only manage 7th fastest but only three tenths adrift of Kennard's time.
Mario Moraes, Greg Mansell and Sebastian Hohenthal rounds out the top ten fro tomorrow mornings 12 lap race.
Jelley set the early pace but the session was stopped after just 3 laps when Juan Pablo Garcia Samano went off at the top of the circuit, bringing out the red flags. When the session restarted Engel went out and set the fastest lap of the weekend, seven thousandths quicker than Jelley's pole time for Round 13. However the Germans joy was shortlived as Kennard became the first driver to set a 2m13 lap with a time of 2m13.896. Engel improved but his best was still 0.060 seconds adrift of Kennard.
In the National Class Sergio Perez took the double, eight tenths ahead of title rival Cheng, with Mike Meadows and Hamad Al Fardan 3rd and 4th respectively.
Jonathan Kennard commented on his second pole: "Oulton Park and Spa are two good circuits to get pole on, so delighted and the team have done a good job. We've just got to capitilise on it because there are no points for pole so we've just got to work out the race strategy and see what we can do. When I saw a 13-8 on the dash, I couldn't believe it. So 13-8, yes, I'm really pleased with that."
