Asmer takes dominant second win at Silverstone
12 August 2007 / Results / PhotosMarko Asmer won the second race at Silverstone this afternoon to cap a perfect weekend for the Hitech driver. Just over six seconds behind was Maro Engel with Greg Mansell taking his second podium of the season in third.
Michael Devaney was fourth for Ultimate ahead of Carlin's Alberto Valerio, who made some audacious overtaking manoeuvres to claim fifth after starting seventh. Title contender Sam Bird was sixth with Rodolfo Gonzalez finishing seventh. Sebastian Hohenthal, Niall Breen and Stephen Jelley completed the top ten.
Greg Mansell was the biggest mover at the start, jumping Gonzalez and Devaney for third. Atte Mustonen went off challenging Devaney around Becketts, dropping down to 20th, with Gonzalez pouncing to secure fourth. However, the Venezuelan was soon put back in his place by Devaney and became the leading carriage of the fifth-to-ninth train.
On lap four, Mario Moraes was called in for a drive-through penalty after jumping the start whilst Walter Grubmuller pitted, rejoining a lap down. Meanwhile Mustonen's charge through the field ground to an abrupt halt behind team-mate Jonathan Kennard in 12th.

On lap 12, the Gonzalez-train was subject to some shuffling, with Valerio finding a way past Hohenthal for sixth, the Swede then coming under pressure from Bird. Lap 20 saw Kennard and Mustonen tangle, the Finn having to retire as Kennard rejoined in 16th behind Leo Mansell, who had been steadily climbing up after starting in 22nd. A lap later Gonzalez was having to fend off the aggressive Valerio - the pair trading places through Becketts and Luffield with Valerio eventually emerging ahead. The T-Sport driver then lost sixth place to Bird. On the penultimate lap, Greg Mansell was just 0.4s behind Engel for second until backmarkers allowed the German to re-assert himself.
