Marko Asmer took his eighth win of the season in the first race at Silverstone this morning after leading from start to finish. Carlin's Maro Engel drove solidly to claim second ahead of Raikkonen Robertson's Atte Mustonen. Greg Mansell just missed out on a podium in fourth.

Both Stephen Jelley and Sam Bird moved up a place from their starting positions to finish fifth and sixth respectively. The Irish duo of Niall Breen and Michael Devaney ended up seventh and eighth ahead of Fortec's Sebastian Hohenthal with Jonathan Kennard managing to snatch the last available point in tenth after starting 13th.

At the start Alberto Valerio, who had qualified tenth, had to start from the pits following a clutch problem. Marko Asmer pulled away cleanly to retain the lead as Rodolfo Gonzalez snuck in front of Mustonen for second. No one was able to settle down however after a Copse-collision between Viktor Jensen, Michael Meadows and Salman Al Khalifa brought out the safety car. At the re-start Gonzalez and Mustonen touched around Becketts putting Gonzalez to the back of the pack but a smart 360 spin saved Mustonen from falling further down than fourth. The collision put Engel up to second and Greg Mansell up to third but not for long as Mustonen re-took third on lap four.

On lap ten, Bird, distracted by his battle with Esteban Guerriri for fifth, lost sixth place to Jelley, who then seized Guerriri a lap later. The Argentinean then seemed to be struggling as he slipped down the order eventually letting Kennard in for tenth. Max Chilton, who was doing well to stay close to Kennard, was forced into retirement on lap 13. On lap 15 John Martin and Gonzalez, who had worked his way back up to 12th, tangled putting both of them out of the race. On the final lap Breen passed fellow countryman Devaney for seventh as Asmer claimed victory two seconds ahead of Engel.
