Red Bull racer Jaime Alguersuari will join Carlin Motorsport for the 2008 British F3 International championship. The 17 year-old Spaniard, who competed in Formula Renault Eurocup this season, will join fellow Red Bull racer Brendon Hartley at the championship winning British team.
At the tender age of 17, Alguersuari has already completed his second full season of formula racing, having finished fifth in the competitive Formula Renault Eurocup this year. The young Spaniard also won three races in Formula Renault Italy where he finished runner-up in the drivers' championship.
Alguersuari won the Formula Renault Italy Winter Series championship in 2006 as well as finishing on the podium in both the Formula Renault Italy series and Formula Renault Eurocup.
Following two years in Formula Renault, Alguersuari will now take the logical step up to British F3, the world's leading F3 category.
Speaking about his next challenge, Alguersuari said, "I have chosen the British F3 Championship as a natural step in my professional career having succeeded in my two-year programme of Formula Renault 2.0. British F3 will allow me to grow-up as a racing driver and as a person, learn some new circuits and compete in some other top venues in a prestigious championship. I'm proud to be part of a top team like Carlin Motorsport and I know they will give me the best possible car. I would like to pay them back with some good results although I know I'm just a newcomer!"
Team Principal Trevor Carlin commented, "Jaime is a very welcome addition to the team. Although still very young, Jaime has shown great potential and I'm confident that he will be an asset to Carlin in 2008. The F3 machine is quite a different beast to the Formula Renault car and we will be putting together a comprehensive test programme for Jaime over the winter to prepare him for the season ahead.
"I'm delighted to have both Jaime and Brendon with us for next season. I think it is a measure of our continued success in British F3 that Red Bull have entrusted us with not just one, but two of its drivers for the 2008 season."
