Kristján Einar completes Carlin British F3 line-up

20 February 2008

Icelandic racer Kristján Einar will complete Carlin Motorsport's British F3 squad for the 2008 season. The 19 year-old racer, who will compete in the National Class alongside Andrew Meyrick, has already completed a comprehensive test programme with the team.
The Reykjavik born rookie first competed in karts in 2004, before becoming Icelandic go-kart champion. Since July 2007 Kristján Einar has completed a wide-ranging test programme with, gaining experience in Formula BMW, Formula Renault and Formula 3 cars.

Kristján Einar followed in Carlin team mates' Brendon Hartley's shoes earlier this year, when Carlin engineered him in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, as part of his pre-season preparations. Competing in nine races, the young Icelander gained valuable experience ahead of his first season in the prestigious British F3 Series.

British F3 has produced some of the greatest racing stars in F1, from former F1 champions Jackie Stewart and Ayrton Senna to modern F1 racers David Coulthard, Takuma Sato and Nelson Piquet Jnr. The Carlin team has won more races in the championship than any other team - taking 79 victories in total. The team last ran a National car in 2006 with Ricardo Teixeira and Mario Moraes.

Kristján Einar will take part in his first official test at the Pembrey circuit in Wales this week, where the rest of the Carlin squad are also out in force.

Speaking about his first season racing in the UK, Kristján Einar said, "I'm thrilled to be racing in British F3 this year and with Carlin Motorsport. The support the team have given me throughout my test programme has been fantastic, and I have already been able to form a strong relationship with my engineer. I'd like to thank the team and my sponsor SALT Investments for this opportunity to compete in one of the world's most prestigious single-seater championships. I'm aiming to reward their faith in me with some exciting racing this season, which will see us fighting for the National title."
