Meyrick to miss British F3 round at Spa

Meyrick to miss British F3 round at Spa

28 July 2008

Having won seven races from 12 rounds, Meyrick has led the National Class championship from the outset and has proved to be the revelation of the 2008 season, finishing on two occasions in the top ten overall. Meyrick's stunning form saw him become part of the MSA Race Elite scheme earlier this year, and also a BRDC Rising Star in June.

Having become ill in early July, Meyrick missed rounds 13 and 14 at Brands Hatch, with Meyrick's driver coach Martin O'Connell racing the number 56 car in his place.

Having undergone a number of tests in hospital, Meyrick is still too unwell to race alongside his Carlin team mates at Spa this weekend.

A frustrated Meyrick said, "Obviously I'm incredibly disappointed not to be able to race at Spa this weekend. Not only is it one of the most exciting tracks in Europe, missing two more rounds is a massive blow to my season in British F3. Becoming ill in the middle of the year was the worst thing possible, but I have to put aside my frustration at the situation and focus on getting better soon."

Carlin director Martin Stone added, "It's too early to say yet when Andy will be able to return to racing, the priority at the moment is for him to receive the best care possible and to make a good recovery. The positive news is that Andy is feeling some improvement day-by-day, and I'm sure no-one is more anxious than he is to see him in a race car again soon."
