Aussie ace Daniel Ricciardo threw down the gauntlet to his Cooper Tires British F3 rivals at Oulton Park today (Friday), besting the opposition by more than half a second to set the quickest time in final testing for the season's opening meeting.
Ricciardo's Volkswagen-powered Dallara, prepared by champion team Carlin Motorsport, lapped the Cheshire circuit in 1m 28.166s, a tenth under last year's pole position time but well off the testing pace set at Oulton last month. Nick Tandy's JTR Mygale went second quickest today, with Riki Christodoulou's Fortec Dallara third best despite a suspension-breaking off at Druids Corner.
Quickest of the National Class runners was Fortec's Daniel McKenzie, by more than a second.
Two of the day's sessions were dry, the third and final session was wet: Hitech Racing's Walter Grubmuller made the best of the damp conditions to emerge nearly half a second ahead of his closest rival, Oliver Oakes.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Oulton Park plays host to two 30-minute qualifying sessions, with rounds one and two of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series planned for Easter Monday.
