Difficult start for Arundel

Difficult start for Arundel

16 April 2009

Henry Arundel experienced a tedious start to his season at the weekend, despite being able to pick up good points for the drivers' championship. With strong performances in pre-season testing, the 21-year-old was presented with a number of setbacks at Oulton Park on his way to twelfth and ninth places in the two races.

The first race at the Cheshire circuit on Easter Monday proved a disappointment for the Carlin driver, who stalled from seventh place on the grid. The race did yield some positivity, however, as Arundel fought back through the field to an eventual twelfth. "I'm really disappointed with the weekend," he said. "I crashed on Friday which wasn't clever, and made a mistake on the grid before the first race which was incredibly frustrating."

A more promising race two saw him rise to tenth by the end of the first lap, which quickly became ninth after passing Carlos Huertas at the Knickerbook right-hander. Arundel then set about team-mate Oli Oakes, although time ran out to take the position before the conclusion of the race. "We know that we have good pace in the car," Arundel added. "I'm sure, with a better result in qualifying, we could be right up there with the front runners."
