Jay Bridger and the West-Tec team have gone their separate ways after strains to the working relationship resulted in a division after just two races of the new season. With the team running Bridger's own Mygale Honda-powered car, a lack of winter testing was compounded with a sixteenth position and a retirement at Oulton Park in Easter Monday's opening race of the year.
Bridger, the current National Class champion, suffered all afternoon with an electrical problem which eventually saw his demise from the second race ten laps from the end. Now scouting for another team to run the car, 22-year-old Bridger insisted there is no bad blood between the two parties. "We have split from West-Tec, but it's a mutual thing," he confirmed. "I wasn't happy with the situation and they weren't happy with the situation, but we parted on good terms.
He believes that the split should come as no real surprise to any onlooker, as he lingered at the tail end of the field. "Everyone could see what was going on, with the car breaking down all the time, but these things happen," Bridger continued. "I know it's difficult for a new team, but I didn't feel we were going to make the progress we need to make.
"Now it's a case of moving on; I've got a few options but I don't know if we'll be out at Silverstone. Whatever we do, it has to be for the full season because I know we have a good car and I want to do Mygale and Honda proud."
