Max Chilton will start both of tomorrow's Cooper Tires British F3 International Series races from pole position. The Carlin Motorsport driver, having secured top spot for round three of the championship in this morning's qualifying session, followed up this afternoon with an even better time in second qualifying.
The Surrey-based 18-year-old was delighted with his performance at the wheel of the AON-backed Dallara-Volkswagen: "It's been a really good day for us... I managed to put in two really good laps when it mattered and now I just have to hope that I can have another really good day tomorrow."
Chilton's 1m 39.781s lap was 0.15s better than that of his nearest rival, his team-mate and championship leader Daniel Ricciardo, who bounced back from his first-session off to underline his pace and position as early-season title favourite.
Riki Christodoulou once again emerged second-quickest British driver; he will start round three from third place on the grid in his Fortec Dallara-Mercedes. Following up his excellent first qualifying performance, Dutchman Renger van der Zande set fourth-best time this afternoon, outpacing his Hitech Racing team-mate Walter Grubmüller by four-tenths.
Nick Tandy, who was way off the pace in his JTR Mygale in qualifying one, found some speed between sessions to secure 10th on the grid for round four.
Brazil's Gabriel Dias was the quickest National Class runner once again for T-Sport, by a tenth from Fortec's Dan McKenzie.
