Alguersuari enjoys Grand Prix visit

13 May 2009

Jaime Alguersuari enjoyed his weekend with the Toro Rosso team at the Spanish Grand Prix, having been invited as a member of Red Bull's young driver development programme. Alguersuari, now 19, clinched the British Formula 3 title for Carlin Motosport last year and hopes to one day make it to the top of the motorsport ladder.

"It was a good experience to work with the team of Franz Tost, to learn and integrate with the team during a Grand Prix," Barcelona's Alguersuari told Diario Sport at the Circuit de Catalunya. Although the Italian-Austrian squad unfortunately lost both cars in the second corner collision, the Spaniard made the most of studying the tactics deployed by the team over the course of the weekend.

"The race strategy has also been a major theme of the Grand Prix," he explained. "I have seen models of strategies which are used on the Saturday afternoon, by calculating the pace of drivers with fuel carried over and on which lap each will stop." Last weekend was also Jaime's first opportunity to work closer with Toro Rosso race drivers 'the two Sébastiens', Bourdais and Buemi. "It is rewarding," Alguersuari added. "Their points of view, how they work and how you should do things yourself are necessary."

2009 presents a different challenge for the teenager, who is currently 11th in the World Series by Renault standings after the first two races in Spain and Belgium, still driving for Trevor Carlin.
