Tandy tops Rockingham practice

Nick Tandy has set the fastest time in Friday practice at Rockingham, as the skill and determination of the Joe Tandy Racing team continues just fifteen days after the tragic death of team founder and Nick's brother Joe, who lost his life in a road accident. Second to Nick today was championship leader Daniel Ricciardo with Henry Arundel third in the second Carlin car..

Nick Tandy and his Mercedes-powered Mygale topped the timesheets not only in the morning test session but also this afternoon, ending his day three-hundredths of a second clear of his nearest rival, championship leader Daniel Ricciardo.

Coming little more than week after the death in a road accident of the JTR team's founder, Nick's elder brother Joe, it was a remarkable performance from Tandy and the whole team on their home circuit. It bodes well for them for tomorrow's qualifying sessions, for which dry and sunny conditions similar to today's are forecast.

The majority of the quick times were set in session one, with Ricciardo best of the rest in his Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen and his team-mate Henry Arundel third fastest. Spaniard Victor Garcia underlined his Rockingham pace with fourth-best time for the Fortec team, just ahead of returning Swedish star Marcus Ericsson, who was making his debut for the Raikkonen Robertson team.

This afternoon it was Riki Christodoulou (Fortec) who ran Tandy closest, with Daisuke Nakajima third fastest for Raikkonen Robertson.

In the National Class it was once again young Brazilian Gabriel Dias who was flying; his Mugen Honda-powered T-Sport Dallara was some seven-tenths ahead of his nearest class rival, Fortec's Daniel Mackenzie.
