The Hitech Racing team celebrated a second Hockenheim pole position this morning, with Austrian driver Walter Grubmüller setting best time in qualifying for round eight of the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series.
For good measure, Grubmüller's Dutch team-mate and round seven pole-sitter, Renger van der Zande, went second fastest to make it an all-Hitech front row.
Walter's Mercedes-powered Dallara lapped the damp-but-drying German Grand Prix circuit in 1m 34.451s, with van der Zande less than a tenth adrift. "It was just a question of making every lap count," said Grubmüller. "There was more grip to be found every lap. I'm very pleased with my second pole of the season."
Carlin team-mates Daniel Ricciardo and Max Chilton were third and fourth fastest this morning. Jay Bridger recorded an excellent 11th-best time in his Litespeed F3-prepared Mygale, his best performance of the season, despite the handicap of having to run with full tanks because of a fuel pick-up problem. Jay's time was only four-thousandths adrift of Nick Tandy's time in the other Mygale.
The leading National Class runner in qualifying was Daniel McKenzie for the Fortec team, by half a second from T-Sport's Gabriel Dias.
