Britain's Nick Tandy has been excluded from the results of Hockenheim's first race of the weekend on Saturday. The Englishman, who finished eighth for the Joe Tandy Racing team, was disqualified as a result of running an illegal car.
After progressing from tenth on the grid to finish eighth in Race 1 in Germany, Tandy's team received the news that the result had been declared as null and void by organisers as a result of an issue with the air intake, with three points being lost as a result.
"A lump of tyre rubber flicked up from the circuit and wedged itself in the air intake," explained current team boss Stuart Prior, who was drafted into the position after the tragic loss of Joe Tandy. "It caused a vacuum and cracked the air box - it's just unlucky for us; we probably gained no more than a tenth of a second per lap, but the rules are the rules and I like ones that are unambiguous. The officials are right so we accept it and move on."
