In what proved to be the closest qualifying session of the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series season so far, Renger van der Zande topped the timesheets at Snetterton today. The Dutch driver will start tomorrow's ninth round of the championship from top spot; it was his second pole position of the season and the Mercedes-powered Hitech team's third successive pole.
Just eight-thousandths of a second covered the top three - van der Zande, Henry Arundel and Max Chilton - with the top 15 runners separated by only nine-tenths.
"I expected to be able to go quicker," said Renger, "but after I set that time the track conditions suddenly changed and that was it. But I am pleased, it was a good session for us and we have been on top all weekend so far."
Fortec driver Daniel McKenzie impressed with his 10th-best overall time, good enough for the National Class pole by a tenth of a second.
