Cooper Tires British F3 championship leader Daniel Ricciardo broke the Hitech Racing team's qualifying stranglehold at Donington Park this afternoon, claiming pole position for tomorrow's 12th round of the series. It is the Carlin Motorsport driver's second pole of the season and brings to a halt a five-race domination of qualifying by Hitech drivers Renger van der Zande and Walter Grubmuller.
Said Dan: "It's a great way to end the day. This morning's P3 was good but to get in front of the two Hitech 'Batmobiles' is really good. It's only my second pole of the season; hopefully I can get a few more in the remaining races. It's going to be a really competitive second half of the season but starting from P1 is the best place to be..."
Ricciardo will be joined on the front row of the grid by another Volkswagen-powered driver, T-Sport's Adriano Buzaid, the Brazilian recording his best qualifying performance of the season so far. T-Sport's Gabriel Dias claimed the best qualifying performance in the National Class and will start from 12th on the grid, just ahead of class points leader Daniel McKenzie.
