Ricciardo tipped for Red Bull F1 test

25 August 2009

British Formula 3 championship leader Daniel Ricciardo is the man most likely to be testing a Red Bull Formula One car at the end of the year, team principal Christian Horner has said. The Australian currently heads the series in which the winner will be granted a full F1 super license, needed to compete at the top level of motorsport.

With Carlin Motorsport's Ricciardo currently ahead of Austria's Walter Grubmüller by thirty-six points, an added incentive was thrown in for the leader when named as a candidate to test the Red Bull over the winter break.

"Dan is clearly doing a very good job in F3 and he's done very well in the simulator work that he's done with us already," Horner, who attended the last round at Silverstone, told Motorsport News of one of the eight British F3 drivers to be involved in Red Bull's young driver development programme. "We'll keep an eye on how he does for the rest of the season and maybe give him a run out on a young driver day."

With two race meetings still go to in this season's British F3 campaign, Ricciardo knows to expect the unexpected but is naturally spurred on by the news. "Hopefully they'll be impressed with my simulator work and I'll be able to get at least a straight-line test this year," added the 20-year-old driver.
