Ricciardo not switching game plan

04 September 2009

Championship leader Daniel Ricciardo is not allowing the pressure to get to him ahead of the penultimate meeting of the season next weekend. The Australian heads to Portimao with a 36-point lead over Walter Grubmüller after a season-long battle which will result in the top man being granted a Formula One super licence.

With only four races remaining in Portugal and Britain, the first pair of the final quartet will be in the Algarve. "We are not going to change our approach," the championship-leading Australian explained. "We will try to go for pole position and then race for the win and obviously not do anything silly while we are out there; so long as I can finish ahead of Grubmüller, we should be okay."

With Red Bull Racing F1 Team Principal Christian Horner having already tipped Daniel for a test at the end of the year, Ricciardo knows that all eyes will be watching the top battle of the British F3 field.

"We should be in with a good chance," the Carlin driver continued. "The team has been there before with the World Series cars and I have raced there also; we know a bit about the circuit already, so that should give us a little advantage. I'm pretty relaxed about everything at the moment. When I get to Portugal I'll start to think about it but for now I'm keeping a clear mind."
