Chilton wins season finale

Max Chilton broke his British Formula 3 duck by registering his first race win at Brands Hatch in the final round of the 2009 championship. The 18-year-old Briton, brother of British Touring Car's Tom, led home Fortec's Riki Christodoulou with Double R's Marcus Ericsson third.

Having sealed pole position on Saturday, Chilton drove a strong race on Sunday although team-mate and Champion Daniel Ricciardo did not enjoy a good start and dropped two places to fourth, where he remained until the chequered flag.

Chilton stretched out a lead of over four seconds although this came to nothing when the Safety Car made an impromptu four-lap appearance due to an accident for Max Snegirev at the high-speed Westfield curve; this all proved to be no more than a minor blip for Chilton, however, who continued to pull away on the restart.

The battle for second, third and fourth also remained static for the remainder of the race as Christodoulou, Ericsson and Ricciardo - who has already earned himself a Formula One super licence by becoming Champion - were unable to do anything about each other's positions.

Championship runner-up Walter Grubmüller finished almost 12 seconds behind Ricciardo for fifth as Nakajima, Boyd, Buzaid, Huertas and Garcia made up the second half of the top ten. Brazil's Gabriel Dias was an impressive 11th for T-Sport to collect the final National Class honours of the year.
